What is VSS (Windows Volume Shadow Services)?
Posted by , Last modified by on 14 Oct 2015

Since RollBack Rx v10.4 Build # 2700722190 released Oct. 9, 2015, an option appears in the new snapshot screen that reads “Flush system cache before creating the snapshot”.

This feature utilizes Windows Volume Shadow Services (VSS) thereby flushing the contents of the cached memory and page file and committing it onto the hard disk before creating a new snapshot. This is an added option to ensure the integrity of the snapshot being taken covers all contents on the drive, and fixes a reported error by users where after a snapshot is loaded Windows does a chkdsk.

If you encounter any errors utilizing this option please Submit a Ticket to our Technical Support Team.
