How to Install on a Multi-Boot Windows System

This article walks you through installing Reboot Restore/RollBack Rx Pro on a Windows multi-boot system. The process requires installing the application on each Windows OS in a specific order, finishing with a single reboot at the end.

Before you begin

  • This process applies to Windows operating systems only.
  • Multi-booting with Linux/MacOS is not supported.
  • Only a single license key is required per PC, regardless of how many Windows OSes are installed.
  • Snapshot data and history are shared across all protected Windows installations.

Example configuration used in this guide: Dual-boot with Windows 10 and Windows 11.

Part 1: Install on the First OS (Windows 10)

  1. Boot into your first Windows OS (Windows 10 in this example).
  2. Download and run setup.exe installer form the following install folders from downloaded ZIP file:
    • Reboot Restore Client\setup.exe
    • RollBack Rx Professional\setup.exeWhen prompted for an installation type, select Custom.
  3. On the installation options screen, select: “This computer has multiple boots of Windows OS. This is one of the OS I need to install the product.”
  4. If a partition selection screen appears, select all partitions.
  5. The installer will complete and close without prompting for a reboot. This is expected — the RollBack Rx Pro application will not be functional yet.

TIP: Repeat the above steps on the 2nd operation system if you have more than 2 Windows OSes on your multi-boot setup.

Part 2: Install on the Final OS (Windows 11)

  1. Manually reboot your PC and select your final Windows OS (Windows 11 in this example).

  2. Download and run setup.exe installer form the following install folders from downloaded ZIP file:
    • Reboot Restore Client\setup.exe
    • RollBack Rx Professional\setup.exe
  3. When prompted for an installation type, select Custom.

  4. On the installation options screen, select: “The computer has multiple boots of Windows OS and I have installed in all the other OS. This is the final OS I need to install the product.”

  5. When prompted, select all partitions you want protected.

  6. The installer will prompt you to reboot. Allow it to complete — this final reboot installs the RollBack Rx bootloader and sub-console, completing the installation across all Windows OS instances.
