How to Repair a Non-Booting System with Horizon DataSys Fix Tools
Important: Please only utilize the Fix Tools for Reboot Restore (Standard and Enterprise) or RollBack Rx Pro if specifically instructed to do so by a Horizon DataSys support representative.
Following these steps will assist in restoring your system's Master Boot Record (MBR) and boot configuration using the Horizon DataSys Fix Tools.
Phase 1: Preparation
-
Download the Fix Tools: Download the FixTools v12.zip archive.
-
Create a Bootable USB: Use a third-party utility such as Rufus (rufus.ie) to create a bootable USB drive using the Fix Tools.
-
Boot from USB: Restart your PC and enter the BIOS/UEFI settings. Ensure the system is set to boot from the USB device.
Note: Depending on your hardware, you may need to enable Legacy Mode (CSM) in your BIOS settings to successfully boot the recovery environment.
Phase 2: Recovery Sequence
Once the Fix Tools menu has loaded, perform the following actions in order:
-
Decrypt Partition(s): Run this utility first. If an error occurs, your drive is likely not encrypted; you may safely skip this step and proceed.
-
Restore MBR Backup: Select Browse > Computer > Local Disk. Navigate to
Program Files\Shieldand select theshield.datfile. -
Restore BCD Backup: Select Browse > Computer > Local Disk and navigate to the
\Windowsfolder. -
Restore EFI Backup: Select Browse > Computer > Local Disk and navigate to the
\Windowsfolder.-
Note: If an error occurs here, your system may not be using an EFI partition; you can safely skip this step.
-
-
Restore Registry Backup: Select Browse > Computer > Local Disk and navigate to the
\Windowsfolder. -
Finalize: Click Exit, remove the USB drive, and attempt to boot into Windows normally.

Troubleshooting: Local Disk Not Visible
If your local drive is not visible during the "Restore MBR" process, you must manually assign a drive letter within the WinPE environment:
-
Navigate to the Start menu and right-click This PC.
-
Select Manage to open Computer Management.
-
Go to Storage > Disk Management.
-
Locate your primary drive in the list. If it is present but has no letter, right-click the partition and select Change Drive Letter and Paths.
-
Assign a drive letter (e.g., C:), then return to the Recovery Sequence instructions above.
