How to Repair a Non-Booting System with Horizon DataSys Fix Tools
Important: Please only utilize the Fix Tools for Reboot Restore (Standard and Enterprise) or RollBack Rx Pro if specifically instructed to do so by a Horizon DataSys support representative.
Following these steps will assist in restoring your system's Master Boot Record (MBR) and boot configuration using the Horizon DataSys Fix Tools.
Phase 1: Preparation

Download the Fix Tools: Download the FixTools v12.zip archive.
- The file includes the following file: RecoveryTools_USB.iso

Create a Bootable USB: For this step we will use a third-party utility called Rufus (download from rufus.ie). Once downloaded, insert your USB key and double-click on rufus-4.14.exe (accept the warnings)
- Under the Disk Partition section, your USB key should be selected.
- Click on SELECT, browse for the RecoveryTools_USB.iso under the Boot Selection from the Rufus program

Boot from USB: Restart your PC and enter the BIOS/UEFI settings. Ensure the system is set to boot from the USB device you just created the bootable drive from.
Note: Depending on your hardware, you may need to enable Legacy Mode (CSM) in your BIOS settings to successfully boot the recovery environment.
Phase 2: Recovery Sequence
Once the Fix Tools menu has loaded, perform the following actions in order:

Decrypt Partition(s): Run this utility first. If an error occurs, your drive is likely not encrypted; you may safely skip this step and proceed.
- Say YES to are you sure to decrypt partitions(s)

Restore MBR Backup: Select Browse > Computer > Local Disk. Navigate to
Program Files\Shieldand select theshield.datfile.- If you get a an error or cannot find the Local Disk, refer to section below Troubleshooting: Local Disk Not Visible

Restore BCD Backup: Select Browse > Computer > Local Disk and navigate to the
\Windowsfolder. -
Restore EFI Backup: Select Browse > Computer > Local Disk and navigate to the
\Windowsfolder.-
Note: If an error occurs here, your system may not be using an EFI partition; you can safely skip this step.

Restore Registry Backup: Select Browse > Computer > Local Disk and navigate to the
\Windowsfolder. -
Finalize: Click Exit, remove the USB drive, and attempt to boot into Windows normally.

Troubleshooting: Local Disk Not Visible
If your local drive is not visible during the "Restore MBR" process, you must manually assign a drive letter within the WinPE environment:

Navigate to the Start menu and right-click This PC.

Select Manage to open Computer Management.

Go to Storage > Disk Management.

Locate your primary drive in the list. If it is present but has no letter, right-click the partition and select Change Drive Letter and Paths.

Assign a drive letter (e.g., C:), then return to the Phase 2: Recovery Sequence instructions above.
